- Foreign nationals require visa to travel to India. Therefore, appropriate visa must be obtained before entering India by air, sea or land.
- Please go through this page carefully for proper understanding of the visa procedure in order to ensure that your visa application is complete in every respect. This will help in easy and correct submission of visa application in the first instance and will avoid unnecessary delay in processing of your application.
- The visas issued are valid with effect from the date of issuance of visa and not from date of entry into India. It is also not possible to issue visa from a future date. Hence, it is advised to apply for visa closer to the travel date.
- Consulate General of India in Munich (CGI, Munich) accepts visa applications from applicants residing in Bayern and Baden-Württemberg only.
- When applying for a visa, the passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months. The passport must have at least three blank pages and should not be mutilated/ damaged/ tampered in any manner.
- Persons of Indian origin, spouse/children of such persons may opt for Entry Visa while filling up the application form.
- Incomplete application forms or those received without requisite documents are liable to be rejected and sent back to the applicant. This Consulate does not take responsibility of loss of application/passport by postal department.
- Mere submission of visa application and payment of visa fee does not entitle issuance of visa. Issuance of visa is the sovereign right of Government of India. Visa can be rejected or validity curtailed or category of visa modified without assigning any reason. In case of rejection of visa or restriction on validity or modification of category of visa, the Visa fees will not be refunded.
- It is strongly advised that applicants do not make any travel arrangements before obtaining an Indian visa. The CGI Munich cannot, under any circumstance, be held responsible for visa being not issued in time.
- Visa processing fee once deposited shall not be refunded. Hence, applicants are advised to deposit the fee only after ascertaining the correct type and period of visa applicable to the purpose of travel.
- The duration and number of entries granted to the applicant will be solely at the discretion of CGI Munich. No claims and correspondences shall be entertained in this regard.
- Applicants holding passports of countries other than Germany, must have a valid stay permit for at least one year in Germany for grant of all types of visas except Business and Employment. In case of Business visa, stay permit of at least two years in Germany is necessary. In case of Employment visa, foreign nationals in Germany having stay permit of less than two years should apply from their home countries.
- All applicants should check the details in their visas and bring any discrepancies to the attention of the issuing authority without delay for rectification. CGI Munich bears no responsibility for the consequences of any discrepancies caused due to the error from applicants.
- There shall be a gap of at least two months between two visits to India on a Tourist Visa on re-entry of nationals of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistan origin and Stateless persons.
- CGI, Munich may ask for additional documents and/or interview before issuance of visa.

- E-Visa: E-visas are processed and administered by Ministry of Home Affairs of India. CGI, Munich has no control over processing of these applications. Advisory:
1. Government of India has not authorized any agent or intermediary to charge any fee for facilitation of emergency / express Visa/eVisa.
2. Foreigners can visit restricted/prohibited areas only after getting a valid permit as visa alone is not enough to visit such places.
3. Afghan nationals who desire to travel to India are required to apply for an Emergency X-Misc Visa on the e-visa portal at http://indianvisaonline.gov.in
4. Afghan nationals entering India on X-Misc visa will have to register with the FRRO/FRO within 7 days of their arrival in India. If they are moving from their registered place of stay to another place, they will have to further register mandatorily with the FRRO/FRO concerned at the new place of residence.
5. Satellite telephone services like Thuraya and Irridium are not permitted in India. TCL (Tata Communications Limited) is permitted to provide Inmarsat services in India only after a no objection certificate is issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) on a case-to-case basis. Unauthorized use of satellite telephone services will be prosecuted under section 6 of Indian Wireless Act and section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act.
Refund Policy for Visa Fee:
1. Request for Visa Fee Refund will be processed by the Consulate in the following cases only:
(a) Multiple visa fee payments by mistake for the same visa application.
(b) If the applicant has paid an excess Visa fee than prescribed.
2. Visa fee once paid is not refundable in the following cases:
(a) If the refund request is received after 03 months.
(b) If the visa is not granted to the applicant.
(c) If the duration of the Visa is curtailed by the Consulate and the applicant has paid the visa fee for a longer duration.
